Do Not Let Negative People Influence You

Morning Reflection

This morning, I experienced a small situation that gave me another meaningful lesson about protecting inner peace and being careful about the influence of other people’s emotions.

A man contacted me by SMS because he wanted to visit one of my rooms for rent. I gave him the phone number of someone who could unlock the room and allow him to see inside. The person responsible for the room was using a Smart line in Cambodia.

A few minutes later, the man called me and said that the number I had given him could not be reached. His voice sounded angry and impatient.

At that moment, I paused.

Instead of immediately becoming angry with him, I asked myself, “Why is this person speaking to me this way?”

I decided not to respond with the same emotion. I simply told him that I would check whether there was another phone number available.

Fortunately, I received another number and sent it to him. This time, it was a Cellcard number. However, he had not yet checked the SMS I had sent. I called him and politely reminded him to check his messages.

Unexpectedly, he responded again with an angry voice and asked whether I had another phone number beside that Cellcard line?

This time, I realized that the situation was no longer simply about a phone number. It was also about the kind of energy and attitude that this person was bringing into the communication.

I calmly explained that the first number was a Smart line and that the second number was a Cellcard line. He had not even tried the second number yet, so I wondered why he was already asking for another one.

At that point, I made a decision not to rent the room to him.

Some people may think that refusing a potential tenant means losing money. But for me, inner peace has greater value than money.

This experience reminded me that we should be careful about the people we allow into our lives. This does not mean that we should hate people who are angry, negative, or difficult. Instead, we should understand our own boundaries and recognize when a relationship may bring unnecessary disturbance into our lives.

My understanding of a peaceful life is quite simple. I do not need luxury to be happy. If I have enough for three meals a day, a place to live, a cup of coffee, meaningful work, and a peaceful mind, I already have something valuable.

If I have little money, I can live carefully and save wisely.

If I have more money, I can enjoy it responsibly.

But whatever my financial situation may be, I do not want to exchange my inner peace for money.

Today reminds me that not every opportunity needs to be accepted.

Sometimes saying “No” is not losing something.

Sometimes it is protecting something much more valuable.

🌿 Reflection

Am I allowing other people’s anger, negativity, or behavior to influence the peace of my own mind?

🌱 Practice

When someone speaks to you with anger or negativity today, pause before responding. Take a breath and observe your own reaction. You do not need to copy another person’s emotional state.

Ask yourself:

“Is this situation worth disturbing my peace?”

Respond with wisdom, maintain healthy boundaries, and choose peace whenever possible.

πŸ’š Blessing

May we have the wisdom to recognize what deserves our attention and what does not.

May we never allow another person’s anger to become our anger, or another person’s negativity to become our burden.

May we learn to protect our peace without hatred, establish boundaries without cruelty, and say no without guilt when necessary.

May we live simply, spend wisely, work honestly, and appreciate what we already have.

And whether we have little or much, may we always remember that a peaceful mind is one of life’s greatest forms of wealth.
