Observing the Inner World
My morning routine continued almost as usual. I began with one hour of Vipassana Meditation followed by five minutes of Metta Bhavana. After meditation, I went swimming in the Mekong River and then had my breakfast. I did not wash the dishes this morning because I needed to drive my children to school and buy some medicine for my family before leaving for the café and starting my work.
Although there were several responsibilities waiting for me, I noticed that my mind remained relatively peaceful. This observation itself became part of my morning practice.
When I arrived at the café, my friend greeted me, and I greeted him back as usual.
This morning, my friend seemed to have discovered or read something new. He became very talkative and enthusiastically shared what he had just learned. I have noticed that he often does this when he discovers a new idea. In the past, situations like this could sometimes create frustration within me, especially when our ideas were different.
But this morning was different.
While my friend was talking a lot, I was able to observe my inner world. I watched my thoughts, feelings, and reactions without immediately becoming involved in them.
To my surprise, I could not find the frustration that I might have experienced in the past.
Instead, I found peace.
I could even make jokes during our conversation. When my ideas were rejected or we disagreed about something, I was able to respond more wisely without allowing disappointment to disturb my inner balance.
This experience may appear small from the outside, but for me it was a meaningful sign of progress.
I realized that meditation is not only about experiencing peace while sitting quietly with closed eyes. The deeper purpose is to bring awareness into ordinary situations—during conversations, disagreements, responsibilities, unexpected problems, and daily relationships.
Peace becomes meaningful when we can carry it into our everyday lives.
This morning reminded me that progress in mindfulness may not always be dramatic. Sometimes progress is simply noticing that something which used to disturb us no longer has the same power over our mind.
Therefore, as long as we continue making an effort to observe our inner world patiently and consistently, we can gradually recognize positive changes within ourselves.
I would like to continue encouraging readers to explore Vipassana Meditation. For me, it is a practice of observing the mind and understanding our inner experience. It can be practiced by people from different backgrounds and does not require us to become someone else.
When practiced sincerely and correctly, mindfulness can help us understand ourselves more clearly and cultivate greater inner peace.
Reflection
What situations used to disturb my mind that I can now meet with greater calmness?
Can I recognize small changes in my reactions as signs of progress?
Practice
Today, whenever someone disagrees with me, speaks too much, rejects my idea, or behaves differently from what I expect, I will pause and observe my inner world.
I will notice the emotion before reacting to it.
I will ask myself:
“What is happening inside me right now?”
I will not try to force the emotion away. I will simply observe it with awareness and patience.
Blessing
May we continue practicing with patience and sincerity.
May our awareness become stronger, our reactions become wiser, and our hearts become more peaceful.
May we learn to carry the peace discovered in meditation into our conversations, responsibilities, relationships, and everyday challenges.
May every small improvement remind us that genuine transformation often happens quietly within.
And may our growing inner peace become a source of kindness, harmony, and benefit to ourselves and to everyone around us.
