Do Not Be Discouraged by Fate, and Do Not Blame Destiny
Daily Quote: Do Not Be Discouraged by Fate, and Do Not Blame Destiny
“Do not be discouraged by fate, and do not blame destiny.”
This is a phrase that we often hear people say when something good or bad happens in life. When someone experiences good fortune, they may say that it is their fate. When they face difficulties or failure, they may say that it was written in their destiny and was already predetermined.
Personally, I believe that these words are largely expressions of each person’s beliefs and perspectives. But if we look more deeply, should we really hand over our entire life to “fate” or “destiny”?
From a Dhamma perspective, each person’s life is closely connected with karma—the actions we create through body, speech, and mind. What we think, what we say, and what we do can all create causes and conditions that influence the results we experience in life.
This does not mean that we can control everything that happens to us. Many things are beyond our control, such as social circumstances, weather, the decisions of other people, and unexpected events. But what we can control is our mind and the way we respond to what happens.
When we experience failure, we can take it as a lesson. When we face difficulties, we can use them to strengthen our patience. When we make mistakes, we can acknowledge them, learn from them, change our behavior, and begin again. Therefore, we do not need to become discouraged by fate or complain about what people call destiny.
Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” we can ask ourselves, “What can I learn from this?” and “What can I do about it now?”
Life is not simply something that we wait for fate to write for us. Every day, we are participating in the writing of a new chapter of our own lives through our thoughts, words, and actions.
Therefore, do not live in fear of fate. Do not use destiny as an excuse to give up making an effort. Instead, live with mindfulness, wisdom, and responsibility for your own actions. Create good causes today, and receive whatever results arise with a balanced and peaceful mind.
πΏ Reflection Question
“In my life, what am I blaming on fate when there is actually something I can begin to change through my thoughts, words, and actions?”
π± Today’s Practice
Today, pay attention to one thought, one word, and one action. Before thinking, speaking, or doing something, pause for a moment and ask yourself: “What kind of result might this action create?” Then choose what is beneficial, compassionate, and does not create unnecessary suffering for yourself or others.
π A Blessing for Your Day
May you have mindfulness to understand yourself, wisdom to see cause and effect, courage to take responsibility for your life, and a peaceful heart when facing things you cannot control. May you trust in the power of wholesome actions and continue moving forward with wisdom, compassion, and inner peace.
