We Must Know How to Use Money — Do Not Let Money Use Us
Daily Quote: We Must Know How to Use Money — Do Not Let Money Use Us
“Money is a useful tool when we know how to use it wisely. But when money begins to control our time, thoughts, and happiness, we may become servants of what was meant to serve us.”
Some people say, “We can live without money.” Others say, “No money, no happiness.” Some people spend much of their lives chasing money, while others focus less on wealth and still find opportunities to earn what they need.
These different sayings remind us that people have different relationships with money.
Today, I would like to share how I think about it.
Money itself is neither good nor bad. What matters is how we use it and how much control we allow it to have over our lives.
We work hard to earn money because we have responsibilities and needs. Sometimes we work overtime or take additional opportunities because we want to support our families, fulfill important goals, or prepare for the future.
But there may come a time when we ask ourselves a deeper question:
“How much of my life am I exchanging for money?”
Time is precious.
Health is precious.
Family relationships are precious.
Peace of mind is precious.
If we spend all our time earning money but have no time to enjoy life, care for our health, or be present with the people we love, we may eventually realize that we have gained money while losing something even more valuable.
People often say, “Let your money work for you.” Investments, businesses, rental properties, and other assets may generate income, but they still require knowledge, attention, responsibility, and sometimes significant risk. Money does not automatically create wealth simply because we put it somewhere.
So how should we use money?
We should use it with purpose.
Earn honestly.
Spend carefully.
Save responsibly.
Invest only with understanding.
Share when we are able.
And avoid allowing unnecessary desires to control our spending.
We should continue working and earning as long as we have the ability and responsibility to do so, but we should also understand that retirement is not only about stopping work. It is about preparing enough resources and developing a life in which our time, health, relationships, and peace also have value.
Money should support our life—not become the purpose of our life.
Perhaps the real question is not, “How much money do I have?”
It is:
“Am I using my money wisely, or is my money using me?”
πΏ Reflection Question
Is money helping me create a meaningful life, or am I sacrificing too much of my time and peace of mind to obtain it?
π± Today’s Practice
Before spending money today, pause and ask: “Is this something I truly need, something useful, or simply something I desire at this moment?”
π A Blessing for Your Day
May you earn money honestly, use it wisely, save responsibly, and share generously.
May money support your life without controlling your mind.
May you have enough material resources to fulfill your responsibilities while preserving what money cannot buy: time, health, love, wisdom, and inner peace.
