What is Money?

Money Is a Tool for Living Understanding the True Value of Money, Happiness, Wisdom, and a Meaningful Life Introduction: The Place of Money in Our Lives Money is one of the most important tools in modern society. We use it to purchase food, clothing, shelter, transportation, education, healthcare, and many other things that support our daily lives. Without money, meeting our basic needs can become extremely difficult. In today's world, almost every aspect of life involves financial considerations. We need money to maintain a home, educate our children, travel, communicate, and prepare for unexpected situations. Even when we wish to live a simple life, we still need certain financial resources to support ourselves and the people who depend on us. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with earning money, saving it, investing it, or working toward financial security. Money can provide opportunities, reduce certain difficulties, and give us greater freedom to make decisions. However, we mu...

The Wind Analogy

The Wind Analogy One of the simplest examples of invisible power is the wind. No one has ever seen the wind itself. We see leaves dancing in the trees. We watch clouds move across the sky. We observe waves forming on the ocean. But what we actually see are the effects of the wind, not the wind itself. The force remains invisible while its influence becomes visible. Life operates in a similar way. Many of the experiences we encounter are the visible expressions of invisible causes. A person’s confidence, kindness, anger, or fear may not be visible in itself, but its effects become evident through words, actions, and relationships. The wind teaches us an important lesson: invisible forces can produce visible outcomes. When a powerful storm approaches, the wind may uproot trees and reshape landscapes. In the same way, powerful internal forces can transform the direction of a person’s life. The challenge is that we often focus only on the visible effects while overloo...

9. The Quiet Practice of Mindful Observation

  9. Morning Reflection The Quiet Practice of Mindful Observation   As usual, I began my morning by waking early and practicing one hour of meditation, followed by five minutes of Mettā Bhāvanā, or Loving-Kindness Meditation. After meditation, I went swimming in the peaceful Mekong River. These quiet moments gave me an opportunity to settle the mind before beginning the activities of the day. Every morning reminds me that a new day is not simply another continuation of yesterday. It is another opportunity to observe the mind, cultivate mindfulness, and practice living with greater wisdom and inner peace. This morning brought an unexpected but meaningful lesson. During breakfast at the café, I met one of my close friends. We greeted each other warmly and enjoyed our coffee together. As our conversation continued, we reviewed some events from yesterday and gradually began discussing several people we both know, including their jobs, Dhamma practice, and the situations...

8. Mind Is the Forerunner of All States

  8. Buddhist Teaching Reflection Mind Is the Forerunner of All States “Mind is the forerunner of all states; mind is chief; mind is supreme. All things are accomplished by the mind. If a person speaks or acts with a corrupted, evil, or malicious mind, suffering follows them just as the wheel of a cart follows the footprint of the ox drawing it.” This profound teaching of the Buddha reminds us that the quality of our life is deeply connected to the quality of our mind. Every action begins within the mind. Before we speak, there is an intention. Before we act with the body, the mind has already formed a decision. Our thoughts, words, and physical actions therefore reveal the direction in which our mind is moving. If the mind is filled with greed, anger, jealousy, resentment, or ignorance, these qualities can influence our speech and behavior. We may speak harshly, act carelessly, or make decisions that create suffering for ourselves and others. Like the wheel of a cart foll...
