Daily Quote
"Mind is the forerunner of all states (phenomena); mind is chief; mind is supreme (made of mind). All things are accomplished by the mind. If a person speaks or acts with an corrupted, evil, or malicious mind, suffering follows them just as the wheel of a cart follows the footprint of the ox drawing it."
Every action such as thought, speech and physical body action before they are acted out they were ordered by the mind. Those actions are the measurement of how strong the mind power is. Therefore, if we can control our mind, we can live happily and peacefully with merit and harmony.
The Buddha taught that the mind is the source from which every thought, word, and action arises. Before we speak, our mind has already formed the intention. Before we perform any physical action, the mind has already decided what to do. In this way, the mind becomes the leader of our entire life.
If the mind is filled with greed, anger, jealousy, or ignorance, these negative qualities will naturally influence our speech and actions. As a result, we create suffering for ourselves and for those around us. Just as the wheel of a cart faithfully follows the footsteps of the ox pulling it, suffering follows actions that are rooted in an unwholesome mind. This is not a punishment from anyone, but the natural law of cause and effect.
On the other hand, when the mind is cultivated through mindfulness, meditation, wisdom, compassion, and loving-kindness, our words become gentle, our actions become beneficial, and our relationships become more harmonious. Peace does not begin with changing the world around us; it begins by transforming the quality of our own mind.
Every moment offers us an opportunity to observe our thoughts before they become words or actions. By developing awareness, we gradually gain the ability to choose patience instead of anger, kindness instead of hatred, and understanding instead of judgment. This is the true strength of the mind.
Therefore, the greatest achievement in life is not controlling other people or external circumstances, but learning to master our own mind. When we cultivate a pure and peaceful mind, we naturally create happiness, merit, and harmony for ourselves and for everyone we encounter. The quality of our life is ultimately shaped not by external events, but by the state of the mind that responds to them.
Reflection Question: What kind of thoughts am I planting in my mind today, and what kind of future will those thoughts create?
