Morning Reflection

A Peaceful Mind Finds a Better Way

Today’s morning reflection began, as usual, with my morning coffee at the café.

Before arriving there, I followed my daily routine. I woke up early and practiced one hour of Vipassana Meditation, followed by five minutes of Mettā Bhāvanā (Loving-Kindness Meditation). During meditation, the familiar sensations of physical pain appeared once again. However, I gently reminded myself that I had already become accustomed to the discomfort. The real challenge was never the body—it was always the mind.

With this understanding, I continued observing my breath and sensations without giving up. Eventually, I completed the full hour of meditation peacefully. Afterward, I went for my usual swim in the Mekong River, returned home for breakfast, spent some time reading the Buddha’s teachings, and then made my way to the café.

About an hour after arriving, I needed to use the restroom.

This ordinary moment unexpectedly became today’s greatest lesson.

The lady responsible for cleaning the restroom usually begins her work early each morning. Sometimes she finishes before I arrive, while at other times she is still cleaning. Whenever the floor is wet, she places two mops across the entrance as a sign that the restroom is temporarily closed.

In the past, whenever I saw her cleaning, I would politely ask whether I could enter. Sometimes she kindly allowed me to use the restroom. At other times, she refused with words that sounded impatient or unhappy. Although I understood that she was simply doing her job, I often walked away feeling slightly disappointed.

This morning was different.

As I approached the restroom, I immediately saw the crossed mops and noticed that she was still inside cleaning. Without hesitation, another idea came into my mind.

Instead of asking for permission, I simply turned around and walked about fifty meters to another restroom nearby.

A few minutes later, everything was solved peacefully.

As I walked back, I quietly smiled to myself.

I realized that my mind had become wiser than before.

There was no need for unnecessary conversation. There was no opportunity for misunderstanding. There was no disappointment. I reached the same goal by choosing another path.

This simple experience taught me a beautiful lesson.

When the mind is calm, it becomes more flexible. Instead of reacting immediately, it naturally searches for peaceful solutions. A restless mind often sees only obstacles, while a peaceful mind quietly discovers opportunities.

Wisdom is not always found in extraordinary situations. Sometimes it appears in the smallest moments of everyday life.

Today, a simple walk of fifty extra meters reminded me that peace often begins when we stop insisting that everything must happen our way.

Sometimes, changing our direction is wiser than trying to change another person.

🌿 Reflection Question

When you face a small obstacle today, will you react with frustration, or will you pause and ask yourself, “Is there another peaceful way?”

🌱 Today’s Practice

When something does not go according to your expectations today, pause before reacting. Take one slow breath and ask yourself:

“Can I solve this differently, without creating conflict?”

You may discover that the peaceful path has been there all along.

💚 A Blessing for Your Day

May your mind remain calm in every situation.

May wisdom guide your decisions before emotions guide your reactions.

May you discover that a peaceful mind not only brings happiness but also reveals solutions that a restless mind cannot see.
