Life Chapters

Daily Quote

“Life is a book with many chapters. Some pages bring happiness, some bring suffering, and some remain difficult to understand. We cannot choose every page, but we can choose how we read each chapter.”

Many writers have described life as a book. They speak about the pages and chapters of our journey. Some chapters are filled with happiness, success, love, and beautiful memories. Other chapters may contain disappointment, loss, difficulties, fear, or uncertainty. Yet every chapter has a place in the story of our life.

In Buddhist teachings, life can also be understood through different stages. We may describe them as Primary Stage of Life, from birth to around 35 years old; Middle Stage of Life, from around 36 to 60; and Later Stage of Life, the final stage of our journey.

However, happiness and unhappiness do not wait for a particular stage of life. From the moment we are born until the moment we die; different experiences and emotions continuously arise within us. Sometimes happiness comes unexpectedly. At other times, sadness, worry, fear, or disappointment appears without being invited.

The important lesson is that these experiences are visitors.

They come, stay for a while, and eventually leave.

We do not need to chase happiness, and we do not need to fight every unpleasant emotion. Instead, we can learn to observe what is happening within us.

If we allow suffering, worry, fear, or disappointment to remain in our minds for too long, they can gradually become the master of our thoughts and influence the way we live.

But when we observe these emotions without immediately following them or fighting against them, something different happens. We begin to see that emotions are temporary. They arise, remain for a while, change, and eventually pass away.

The same principle applies even to happiness.

We should enjoy happiness when it comes, but we should not become attached to it. Happiness is not something permanently waiting for us somewhere outside ourselves. A peaceful mind, awareness, acceptance, gratitude, and wise understanding can open the door to genuine happiness.

When we look around us, we can see that everyone is carrying a different chapter of life. Some people are experiencing family difficulties. Some are struggling financially. Some are dealing with disappointment. Others may appear happy on the outside while quietly carrying pain within.

Therefore, we should become more grateful for what we have today. We should use our present circumstances wisely rather than constantly waiting for a perfect chapter to begin.

From now on, let us learn to live with gratitude, inner peace, and harmony between our inner and outer lives.

Let happiness come without becoming our master.

Let unhappiness come without becoming our master.

Let us observe, accept, learn, and allow each experience to pass naturally.

The real happiness of life may not be the absence of problems.

Perhaps true happiness is the ability to live with problems wisely, peacefully, lovingly, and freely—without allowing temporary emotions to control the direction of our lives.

We may not be able to choose every chapter, but we can learn to read every chapter with wisdom.
